The late professor Henry S. Tatsumi taught Japanese language at the University of Washington in Seattle. Tatsumi Sensei started Far Eastern Press in 1959 using the Tatsumi family crest as a logo to publish A Charted Course to Spoken Japanese. Tatsumi Sensei's vision was to encourage peace and understanding between Japan and the USA. Eric Oberg (Tatsumi's grandson) revived the Far Eastern Press imprint in 2000 to publish Moving Toward Harmony, a book on the principles of the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Since then Far Eastern Press has shifted its focus to socially conscious works of fiction and nonfiction. Our latest titles are Flight of the Goose: A Story of the Far North (2005) and Orchards of Eden: Whitebluffs on the Columbia 1907 - 1943 (2006).
